F.A.S.T.™: Floating Algae System Technology

The algae production component of the Bioponics model represents both a means of waste collection and utilization, as well as an alternative feed ingredient. F.A.S.T.™ is arguably the first and only floating algae production system designed to exploit the diversity of water surface acres available for production. The system is simple in design, using clear poly-tubing or “plastic socks” in a wide variety of diameters as the production system. The poly-tubing is available in large rolls that can be cut to length to design any shape or size configuration. The overall size of the system, in linear feet, is only limited by the amount of waste generated by the Aqua-Sphere® system.
The entire system has very low energy requirements, and can be operated using only a small regenerative blower, either independent or together with the air blowers used to power Aqua-Sphere®. Once the algae cultures are started, the F.A.S.T.™ system can be harvested at 70% of its volume every week. Make-up water and organic fish, or animal waste, or commercial fertilizers (nutrients) are added, and production continues. Other design attributes of F.A.S.T.™ include:
